It is with great pleasure that we announce that RAPDASA will be joined for its 23rd Annual International Conference by the 15th Robotics and Mechatronics (RobMech), the 33nd Pattern Recognition Association of South Africa (PRASA) and the 3rd South African Advanced Materials Initiative (CoSAAMI) conferences.
Following the success of the hybrid 22nd Annual International Rapid Product Development Association of South Africa (RAPDASA) conference hosted by CSIR Pretoria in November 2021, we are pleased to announce the second call for papers for the 2022 RAPDASA-RobMech-PRASA-CoSAAMI hybrid conference at the Hazendal wine estate, Stellenbosch, South Africa.
This conference will bring together experts from industry, academics and students in additive manufacturing, materials engineering, rapid product development, pattern recognition, robotics and mechatronics to present research, network and expand the fraternity that has been built by the four conferences.
The theme of the 2022 conference:
Digital technology in production development
is a call to everyone involved with product development and process improvement using digital technology. Our collective aim is to accelerate Africa’s manufacturing industry for inclusive economic growth, increase the competitiveness of its economies, and improve the livelihoods of its people.
The conference will offer opportunities for participants from industry, R&D institutions, academia and government to connect and collaborate to grow the next generation of advanced manufacturing enterprises across the continent.
Conference papers on the following topics are welcomed:

Who should attend?
The Organizing Committee, on behalf of RAPDASA, RobMech, PRASA and CoSAAMI, invites product designers, toolmakers, production staff, technical directors and managers from industry involved in design, development and manufacturing of products and components to participate or simply attend the conference. In addition, participants from international product development communities, academia, national R&D and educational institutions are also invited to attend and participate in the conference. Furthermore, additive manufacturing, robotics and pattern recognition, are becoming important for general managers and CEOs and the world of finance and investment. Ample opportunities will be available to meet with experts in the field.
Important deadlines:
- Deadline for submission of abstracts: 30 April 2022
- Notification of acceptance of abstracts: 3 May 2022
- Deadline for submission of full papers: 3 June 2022
- Feedback on paper reviews: 31 August 2022
- Deadline for early bird registration: 10 September 2022
- Submission deadline for final revised papers: 30 September 2022
Please see Conference abstract & paper submission for instructions on how to submit an abstract to the conference.
Publication of papers
Abstracts first must be approved before submission of a full paper will be accepted. All papers accepted for the conference will be subjected to a double-blind peer review process. The peer review process will be led by the Technical Committee. Selected papers will be submitted for publication in the ISI accredited, The South African Journal of Industrial Engineering (SAJIE).
Industry presentations
As an alternative to the above peer-reviewed papers, industry participants have the opportunity to present their applied research in a non-peer-reviewed format. Only an extended abstract need to be submitted for industry presentations. These presentations will be marked as such in the programme. Industry presentations are not included in the conference proceedings. Companies that wish to sponsor pages in the conference proceedings may contact Rynette Coetzer at info@rapdasa.org
