We are pleased to announce the SECOND GRADUATE CONFERENCE of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Temple University. This year’s conference themes revolve around authenticity and resilience due to the political, socioeconomic, and ecological crises of our present.
Politics of authenticity are broadly conceived to include literary, linguistic, pedagogical, and social portrayals that delve into the discourses and practices of resilience in the Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian contexts.
This conference is a forum for exploring inquiries on how art and culture shape the idea of authenticity and resilience. How have conceptualizations of what constitutes authenticity and resilience evolved and how have they been challenged? How do cultural representations, symbolic and material productions such as literature, mass media, film, music, and language usage index authenticity and resilience? How are the discourses and practices of resilience configured? In what ways do these discourses and practices strengthen hegemonic power structures, or how do they contest these structures?
The Second Graduate Conference of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Temple University will provide a unique opportunity for graduate students, professors, and independent scholars to come together and share methodologies, findings, theoretical frameworks, and stances, while discussing future research directions.
