The 9th International Conference on Behavioral and Social Computing (BESC 2022) will be a hybrid mode Conference, hosted by Matsuyama University, Japan, 29-31 October 2022. BESC conference aims to become a premier forum in which academic researchers and industry practitioners from artificial intelligence, computational social sciences, natural language processing, business and marketing, and behavioral and psychological sciences could present updated research efforts and progresses on foundational and emerging interdisciplinary topics of BESC, exchange new ideas and identify future research directions. Following the successful BESC2014 in Shanghai, China, BESC2015 in Nanjing, China, BESC2016 in Durham, NC, USA, BESC2017 in Krakow, Poland, BESC2018 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, BESC2019 in Beijing, China, BESC2020 in Bournemouth, UK, BESC 2021 in Doha, Qatar, BESC 2022 will take place in Matsuyama University, Ehime, Japan.
Submission Guidelines
The BESC Organizing Committee invites submissions of applied or theoretical research and application-oriented papers on any below topics as well as Doctoral Symposium track papers.
All submissions should use IEEE two-column style. Templates are available from http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html
Paper submission system is available at: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=besc2022
- All papers must be submitted electronically through the paper submission system in PDF format only. BESC 2021 accepts research papers (6 pages), special session papers (6 pages) and Doctoral Symposium papers (2~4 pages).
- The page count above excludes the references.
- Conference paper review will be double-blind, and submissions not properly anonymized will be desk-rejected without review.
- Doctoral Symposium track submissions don’t need to be double-blind.
- Submitted papers must not substantially overlap with papers that have been published or that are simultaneously submitted to a journal or a conference with proceedings.
- Papers must be submitted entirely in English
- Papers will be selected based on their originality, timeliness, significance, relevance, and clarity of presentation.
- Submission of a paper should be regarded as a commitment that, should the paper be accepted, at least one of the authors will register and attend the conference to present the work. All accepted papers will be included in IEEE Xplore and indexed by EI. Top-quality papers presented in the conference will be invited for extension and publication in several special issues of international journals, e.g., World Wide Web Journal (Springer), Web Intelligence, and Social Network Analysis and Mining (Springer).

Doctoral Symposium track
The BESC 2022 Doctoral Symposium provides a supportive environment that enables doctoral students to get constructive feedback on their research. Students will have the opportunity to discuss their work with experienced members in the interdisciplinary field of behavioural and social computing. Thus, the symposium offers a unique opportunity to gather valuable expert feedback and connect with peer students in the same field. The event is dedicated to PhD students who are at least in the second year of their program, presenting initial results that are not yet mature enough for a complete paper. The BESC doctoral symposium covers the same research topics as the conference.
Dates/Deadlines
- Paper submission: 25 Aug 2022
- Notification of acceptance: 2 Sep 2022
- Doctoral Consortium date: 29 Oct 2022
Paper Submission Details/Guidelines
- The research problem being addressed and its novelty and importance.
- The questions or solutions addressed in the thesis, their novelty and feasibility.
- The research methodology to be followed.
- Initial results if obtained. Results include a comparison to the literature.
Doctoral consortium papers are short and are used as a basis for guidance and discussion. Students should think about the above points carefully and try to make their ideas concrete and straightforward. Students at relatively early stages of their research may find it challenging to address some of these points but should still attempt to do their best. Doctoral students shall get mentorship from their supervisors to familiarize themselves with the entire process, including the submission, presentation and registration. Please seek your supervisor's support in advance. The paper submission system is available at: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=besc2022, where you can select the Doctoral Symposium Track for the submission.
Structure
All submissions should use IEEE two-column style. Templates are available from http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.htmlThe Doctoral Consortium Papers shall relate to the BESC 2022 topics listed in the main track. A recommended paper structure is as follows: Title: Your name, affiliation, email address.1- Introduction/Motivation: Give a general introduction to the domain/area/topic and indicate its importance, novelty and impact in Behavioral and Social Computing.2- Related work: Describe existing work in the area, work focusing on the same or similar problem, or work that might be useful for realizing your PhD.3- Problem Statement and Contributions: Based on motivation and related work, formulate the problem you intend to solve or the questions you want to answer. This section should include a precise statement of one main research question and, possibly, very few sub-questions.4- Research Methodology and Approach: Describe the research methodology you will apply in your research. Describe your approach to solving the problem and testing your hypotheses. If your research implies developing solutions, describe how you will evaluate them. If it contains discovering new knowledge, describe its implications and use. 5- Preliminary or Intermediate Results: Report the results achieved in your PhD. 7- Conclusions: Present your intermediate conclusions and lessons learned.
All submissions must be in English, PDF format, and not contain or cite proprietary or confidential material. The research plan should be submitted via the Easychair Doctoral Symposium track. Papers will be reviewed based on the relevance, originality, and feasibility of the described research. All accepted and presented papers expect to be included in IEEE Xplore and submitted for indexing in DBLP, Scopus, Google Scholar, EI, etc. The student must attend BESC 2022 for the submission to be published. Students have to acknowledge their supervisory team in the Acknowledgement session.
