Societies worldwide are evolving to embrace new technologies that may be more intrusive in the daily lives of individuals. Technologies that are exclusive to parts of society thereby increasing, the digital divide and separating groups and societies. This further contributes to greater ethical concerns as data is becoming central to emerging digital societies. There is a need for society to evolve in order to adapt to technological change and harness the power of the increasingly available technology and information in transforming communities.
Moreover, the environmental impact of existing industries, the consumption models of society, and the current trajectory of built environment development in which cities and societies are evolving are of concern considering that sustainability requires new data models.
Digitalisation and environmental awareness are changing the way people live, learn, and move which will have an impact on the next generation of buildings, communication systems, and energy production and consumption.
Therefore, the research, innovation, and technology development being considered today must align with the improvement of the quality of life, and health underpinned by the environmental footprint impact. The need for developing cutting-edge research and technologies appropriate and responsive to societal transformation is required. Research that responds to science and technology for the environment, leads to societal transformation through social innovation
The call to participate at the 2022 Faculty Research, Innovation and Tech Days (FRD’2022) covers all aspects from basic research to innovation and technology prototyping in different fields from engineering to humanities and social sciences. Research contributions, as well as technology prototyping that will contribute to the building of the emerging digital economical fields and contribute to the country’s competitiveness by embracing components of 4IR and with a focus on the societal benefit with a minimum environmental footprint, are encouraged.
Selected abstracts will be invited for paper presentations, poster presentations and technology demonstrations. A jury will assess the submissions and the award-winners will be announced at the end of the event.
