PAIS 2020 Call for papers
The 11th International Conference on Prestigious Applications of Intelligent Systems, PAIS 2022, will take place on July 25th, 2022 in Vienna, Austria, as a subconference of the International Joint Conference and European Conference on Artificial Intelligence, IJCAI/ECAI 2022.
The PAIS 2022 Programme chairs invite papers describing innovative applications of AI techniques to real-world systems and problems. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a central topic in contemporary computer science and has enabled many groundbreaking developments which have significantly influenced our society. Techniques, concepts, and results developed under the banner of AI research have proven to be of fundamental importance in areas such as medicine, biology, economics, philosophy, linguistics, psychology and engineering; furthermore, they have proven to have a significant impact on several real-world applications, such as e-commerce, tourism, e-government, national security, manufacturing and other economic sectors. Consequently, AI has become increasingly important in neighbouring fields.
Papers highlighting all aspects of the application of intelligent systems technology are most welcome. Our aim is to provide a forum for academic and industrial researchers and practitioners to share experience and insight on the applicability, development and deployment of intelligent systems. PAIS is the largest showcase of real applications using AI technology worldwide and is the ideal place to meet developers of successful applications.
Topics of Interest
Papers on all novel and significant applications of intelligent systems are welcome. We encourage submissions on deployed (in production use for some time) and emerging applications (in field testing). Papers considering deployed applications should clearly highlight the benefits of the application, describe how AI methods are applied or enhanced, and finally present the contribution of AI methods to the overall success. For emerging applications authors must convincingly argue the benefits of the productive use.
We welcome papers in all application fields based on one or more of the following AI topics (indicative only):
- Agent-based and Multi-agent Systems
- Computational Intelligence
- Computer Vision
- Constraints and Satisfiability
- Ethical, Legal, Social Issues
- Human Aspects in AI
- Knowledge Representation and Reasoning
- Machine Learning
- Multidisciplinary Topics
- Natural Language Processing
- Neural Information Processing Systems
- Planning and Scheduling
- Uncertainty in AI
- Robotics and Autonomous Systems
- Safe, Explainable, and Trustworthy AI
- Semantic Technologies
- Search & Game Playing

Formatting
Two types of contributions are admitted to PAIS 2022:
- Research papers
- Highlights
Research papers should report on substantial novel results.
Highlights are two-page extended abstracts that present your favourite recent technical work (published elsewhere), position, or open problems with clear and concise formulations of current challenges. The aim is to disseminate them to a wide audience, giving AI community members the opportunity to learn about unfamiliar work and foster interdisciplinarity. Highlight submissions will be reviewed by qualified members of the Program Committee. The reviewers of the papers will follow guidelines specifically tailored to their special nature.
Submitted papers must be formatted according to the IOS Press style. Long papers must not exceed fourteen (14) pages and highlight papers must not exceed four (4) pages. Overlength submissions will be rejected without review. The IOS Press formatting style kit is available here.
Originality
Regular paper submissions must be original and should not have been formally published, accepted for publication or under review elsewhere. Also, submissions must not be submitted elsewhere during the PAIS 2022 reviewing phase.
Submission
Submission and review of papers for PAIS 2022 will be managed via Easychair.
Submission URL: https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=pais22.
All submissions will be subject to peer review by the PAIS 2022 Programme Committee and evaluated based on relevance, significance of contribution, (societal and environmental) impact, technical quality, scholarship and quality of presentation.
Based on the recommendations made by the reviewers and a separate award committee one of the accepted scientific papers will receive the “Best AI Application Award”.
PROCEEDINGS AND PRESENTATION
Accepted papers (both regular papers and highlights) will be included in the PAIS 2022 proceedings, which will be published and distributed by IOS press. The proceedings of recent PAIS conferences are freely available at the IOS website.
Authors of accepted papers must provide the camera-ready version in PDF format, conforming to the IOS Press format. Furthermore, at least one author of each accepted paper (both research papers and highlights) must register at the conference and present the contribution. Research papers will be presented as talks; highlights will be presented in poster form.
