MAALIC 2023 will be the 3rd conference hosted by MAAL (Malaysian Association of Applied Linguistics .It will be held in a hybrid mode: both physical and online participation. Since most countries have started opening up their borders, we would like to welcome our presenters and participants to MAALIC 2023, Kuala Lumpur. For those who are still restricted to travel abroad, we provide the opportunity to participate in the conference virtually with a limit to its number of participation. MAALIC 2023 will stipulate an excellent opportunity to meet experts in various areas of Applied Linguistics and Language education and teaching including interdisciplinary studies.
Submission Guidelines
Guidelines for Writing Abstract
- A clear title with not more than 16 words.
- An introduction that includes background, the context of the study/subject of focus, definition of terms; past studies from global to local scenario.
- The objective of the paper is clearly stated.
- Details of the research method or approach should include the study setting, participants profile, number of participants, research design (qualitative/quantitative/mixed method), data collection technique and analysis.
- A clear overview of findings, implications and conclusion.
- The abstract is written within the required word limit (200 – 250 words).
- Keywords are provided (maximum FIVE).
- Author(s) biodata should accompany the abstract (50 – 70 words).
- PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PREFERENCES SECTION IS TO BE IGNORED AS THIS IS INBUILT INTO THE ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

Abstract Review Process
- All abstracts received will be evaluated.
- Author(s) will be informed about the status of abstract on any of the following:
- (i) abstract needs fine-tuning (minor/major)
- (ii) accepted as it is
- Author(s) will be informed about the presentation format: paper/poster/either-or by the committee. Just select the presentation format to complete the abstract submission process
MAALIC 2023 Poster Session Guidelines
Key Requirements
- Poster presenters are required to register for the Conference via the online form at the MAALIC 2023 Abstract Submission page by 30 June 2023. Registration is only once per person.
- Virtual poster presenters will be given the opportunity to record a short 90-second presentation of their poster. This recording must be submitted by 30 August 2023.
- Your poster must be submitted by 20 August 2023 – failure to submit on time may result in the removal of your poster from our conference.
Digital Poster Format
- Final submission can be one (1) page high end (1920 x1180 quality) PDF only. (Please save your presentation file created by PowerPoint etc. in PDF format.)
- File name: [First Name] [Last Name].pdf. (E.g. JohnDoe.pdf)
- Poster format and font size: Create slide in standard size (horizontal) within 1 page using slide creation software such as PowerPoint. The font size should be easy to read on the screen of PC and tablet.
- Maximum file size: 10 MB. *Making file size smaller is better for smooth operation and comfortable viewing.
- The top of the poster must include the TITLE, AUTHOR(S) and INSTITUTION(S). Author is responsible for all titles and headings.
- Poster language is English and Malay.
- Use the past tense and the third-person (avoid “I”, “we” and “our”).
- It is highly recommended to use the following structure: Introduction / Objective / Methods / Results / Conclusion.
- QR codes may be included as part of your poster to direct viewers to a download of your poster. Do not embed video, animation, audio or hyperlinks.
- The authors agree that their information can be made public (poster/website). We take no responsibility for incomplete or inaccurate information.
- The presenting author must be present at the Conference and is expected to be available to answer questions during the Conference via chat room.
Video Presentation
MAALIC 2023 highly encourages you to record a short video presentation of your poster. This video file should be no more than 90 seconds. This video can introduce the presenter or highlight the key findings in power point format or display charts related to the study. Pre-recorded video may include up to 3 slides maximum. This video will be placed under the thumbnail of your poster image and must be submitted by 30 August 2023. (If you are participating in the Best Poster Award, you are required to submit a recorded short video).
Presentation Schedule
Posters will be viewed during the virtual event from 5-6 September 2023 or during the poster session and during breaks. Presenters will be given a chat room to network with attendees.
Poster Submission Online:
Poster applications must be submitted via email to: maalic.conference.my@gmail.com by 30 August 2023. Include the title, authors, and an abstract in your poster.
Video Presentation Submission:
Please submit your video presentation via email to: maalic.conference.my@gmail.com by 30 August 2023.
