The relevance of distinguishing elaborative and predictive inferences.EasyChair Preprint 384412 pages•Date: July 12, 2020AbstractIn this study, we examine whether Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 children (N=142) can make elaborative and predictive inferences while listening to fictional stories. Inferential skills were assessed through a drawing decision task. Our result showed that most children were able to produce both types of inferences. But, more precisely Grade 1 and Grade 2 spontaneously focused more on predictive inferences whereas kindergarten were more accurate on elaborative ones.
