To understand the factors that determine the feedbacks in the global climate system of the cycles of carbon, a hierarchy of model units is constructed which parameterize a totality of physical and biogeochemical processes which are responsible for transport of various substances. In this paper an attempt has been made to assess the role of agriculture and forests in assimilation of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and to analyze the characteristics of forest ecosystems.
