Neurophysiology of Pain: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Approaches

EasyChair Preprint no. 11015

5 pagesDate: October 4, 2023

Abstract

Pain is a complex and multifaceted sensory experience that plays a fundamental role in alerting
an organism to potential threats and guiding protective behaviors. The neurophysiology of pain
involves intricate mechanisms encompassing the peripheral nervous system, central nervous
system, and a myriad of molecular and cellular processes. This abstract provides a concise
overview of the current understanding of pain mechanisms and explores innovative therapeutic
approaches aimed at alleviating pain. This abstract highlights the complexity of the
neurophysiology of pain, emphasizing the need for a multidisciplinary approach to understanding
and treating pain. As our understanding of pain mechanisms continues to grow, novel therapeutic
approaches that address both the sensory and emotional aspects of pain are emerging, holding the
potential to improve the quality of life for individuals suffering from acute and chronic pain
conditions. Advances in neurophysiology research and therapeutic innovation are paving the way
for more effective and targeted pain management strategies.
